The Takeaway: Iran

0 دیدگاه

Welcome to The Takeaway, a new series highlighting the best goods a destination has to offer

Like the rest of the Middle East, Iran is rich; oil was found in the country in the early 20th century, and within a matter of decades the West swayed Iran both politically and culturally. The events following the 1979 revolution shut off much of Iran’s trade with the rest of the world. In January, President Barack Obama repealed the country’s sanctions on Iran, solidifying a friendlier relationship and inspiring a new wave of travelers to visit the Islamic Republic.

Many of Iran’s top goods boast opulence—precious metals and gems are plentiful, Persian rugs are revered with the highest standing in the carpet universe and Caspian caviar is considered the best in the world. For a comprehensive list of Iranian objects travelers can take into the U.S., check the Customs and Border Protection’s guidelines.
