If we were on a dinner date with Arsene Wenger, which Hot Football Transfer Gossip sadly never has been, you could imagine that he’d like to take his time over things.
When the wine list was brought over, he’d put on his reading glasses and spend a good seven minutes pondering the options.
Choosing his main course, he’d have various questions for the waiter about the cooking and sourcing of the ingredients. Even deciding on his condiments would take a prolonged moment of introspection before he finally settled on a sachet of Dijon mustard (“Do you have anything other than this ‘Heinz’, garcon?”).
Essentially, Wenger is not a man who likes to rush into things, whether it’s choosing a main, signing a player or deciding on his future as Arsenal manager. But according to the Sunday Mirror, the Gunners board are fed up with this endless pontificating. They want “finality”, and they want it before the next game.
